"Out of the Ashes" - Lancaster LIFE is Reborn!
August 7 , 2008

Ancient Greek Mythology states that the phoenix is a sacred firebird that bursts into flames at the end of it’s life and a new, young phoenix arises from the ashes to live again. In Jewish folklore, it is said that the phoenix was the only animal not to join Adam in his banishment from the Garden of Eden. The phoenix has been used in Persian Mythology, ancient Lebanese culture, as a Chinese legendary bird and is woven into the stories of Russian folklore as a symbol of rebirth. Although descriptions vary, the phoenix has become a symbol of Christ - representing resurrection, immortality and life-after-death.
Seneca Foote, CEO and President of Albright Care Services, made a profound comment referring to this legend, after the September 2007 fire that destroyed the building that Albright LIFE – Lancaster was scheduled to move in to. He stated, “We have a great team and look forward to the day when we can say, look what was reborn out of the ashes. It will become a part of the lore of our service there.” (Lancaster)
And so, Albright LIFE in Lancaster has risen from the ashes – it is now on track to complete building renovations and begin caring for participants in Fall 2008. Executive Director, Beth Fluder, has been working tirelessly with the Developer, Architect and Construction Managers to make the LIFE program in Lancaster a reality in both bricks and concept, while staff prepares policies, procedures, systems, intake and marketing to get the word out to the Lancaster community that Albright LIFE is coming!
Dr. Neelofer Sohail has been chosen to be the Medical Director at Albright LIFE in Lancaster.
LIFE (Living Independently For Elders) is Pennsylvania’s version of the nationally recognized Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE). This unique program will provide comprehensive medical, health and social services that will enable our frail, elderly participants to remain at home and live as independently as possible. Albright Care Services is also opening a LIFE program in Lycoming/Clinton Counties as a part of it’s mission to serve the elderly. LIFE – Lycoming will be opening in June 2008.
A mythical bird that never really dies, the phoenix flies afar, always scanning the landscape and distant space. It represents our capacity for vision and for rebirth.
